The American School of Paris is an international, family-oriented community, with a student body representing 54 different nationalities. With the partnership of our Parent Faculty Association, our unique school in France offers a world of events each year, celebrating and sharing our wide array of nationalities, cultures and traditions.

Community Connections Fair

American School of Paris - Community Connections Fair

Each September, as part of our Welcome Program, ASP invites various vendors and service providers to help welcome our new and returning families. You can come and take advantage of more than 50 English and French-speaking groups from the Paris area who will gather to answer your questions. Representatives are on hand from area clubs, religious and service institutions, language and cooking schools, beauty, banking, sports, photography services and much more. Certain vendors have items for sale on this day. There are also many ASP parent groups at the event.

The Community Connections Fair is an annual event which is part of a comprehensive program to welcome and acclimate the more than 100 new families joining our school, as well as those returning, each Fall. If you would like to particpate in the next Community Connections Fair please contact

Living Skills

Living Skills Seminars: Helping New Families Make the Most of their Stay in France

Organized by the Parent-Faculty Association

Seminar 1: After a warm welcome by Head of School Jane Thompson, a physician will explain the French approach to healthcare, how to find English-speaking doctors, and what to do in the case of a medical emergency. You will also hear from the school nurse about ASP’s health policy. Additionally, a culinary expert will share helpful tips – and a handy shopping guide – on what to buy and what to look for when shopping at the local market, as well as provide the French equivalents of your favorite foods. A light lunch will be served.

Seminar 2: Not only are you new to Paris, but you are also a rookie in the ASP community! After this session, you will be an all-star on specific ASP programs and systems, including: school communication tools, online services, library resources, athletics programs, and the PFA. Also on the agenda, a member of the school’s security team will discuss safety in Paris, and an ASP parent will offer tips on day-to-day travel in and around the city, including public transit and driving in France. You’ll also get tips on taking advantage of holidays and travel opportunities during your time in Paris. Please come with all your questions! Seminar 2 also includes the Community Connections Fair.

Visiting Writer Program

For the past 15 years, thanks to a generous gift from AMERICAN SCHOOL OF PARIS alumnus Steven Barclay '77, ASP has been able to showcase some of the literary world's best-known authors at our Visiting Writer Program. This event is one of ASP's premiere community events and is a highlight of the school calendar.

During their visit to ASP, the authors interact with Upper School students. During an evening, they also give a reading for ASP parents, faculty, and staff at a special reception. The 2018 Visiting Writer is Hilton Als, contributor to The New Yorker and winner of the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Criticism.

Thanks to the continued generous support of alumnus Steven Barclay, in previous years ASP's Visiting Writer Program has also enjoyed visits from: Naomi Shihab Nye, Tim Egan, Michael Pollan, Terry Tempest Williams & Alexandra Fuller, Ira Glass, Sarah Vowell, Amy Tan, Robert Hass, Dr Azar Nafisi, Alexander McCall Smith, Robert Pinsky, Billy Collins, Naomi Shihab Nye, David Sedaris, Marjane Satrapi
