LOWER SCHOOL DISTANCE LEARNING
In the event that ASP is closed, we will shift our learning from the classroom to the home using this distance learning plan. “Distance learning” seeks to model the classroom experience, however, we understand that this will require support, creativity, and flexibility from parents and caretakers. Our goal is to utilize our online learning platforms primarily SeeSaw and Zoom, an online conferencing and communications tool, in addition to practical and engaging assignments.
K5–Grade 5:
- Teachers will post daily work assignments through Seesaw, using resources like RazKids, IXL, Georgia Math, Khan Academy, Literacy Planet, and many others to engage students.
- Teachers will continue using the 8-day schedule already in place. For example, if Grade 2 has Science on day 6, then a science lesson will be posted for Grade 2 students on Seesaw.
- Homeroom Teachers in K5–Grade 5 will use our Zoom platform daily and regularly to engage students face to face, and to keep up the relationships that we’ve worked so hard to develop through our social curriculum work.
- Teachers will collaborate with specialist teachers to ensure that students are not overwhelmed with the amount of work assigned each day, and to be regularly collaborating with grade level and department team members to ensure a consistent educational experience for students.
- Parents should encourage their children to have fun and to stay active!
- Instruction and outcomes will look different for different grade levels, subject areas, as is usual in face to face teaching.
- Distance learning is not easy. Keep in regular contact with your children’s teachers, and reach out to Justine, our Lower School Counselor, or Dan Kerr, the Lower School Director if you or your child are in need of support.
