Ibram X Kendi: How To Be An Antiracist
First published in 2019, How To Be an Antiracist (in the US library) demolishes the idea of a post-racial society. This powerful memoir and political guide asserts that it is not enough to be 'not racist' – rather, progressive movement demands action: a commitment to being antiracist. The book has sold over 1m copies worldwide, and helped to mobilise a movement. In 2020, Time magazine named Kendi one of the world's most influential people.

In conversation with Patrick Radden Keefe
The journalist Patrick Radden Keefe will talk about his award-winning narrative investigations, including The Snakehead. His page-turning book Empire of Pain (in the US library) which chronicles the billionaire Sackler family behind Oxycontin, the painkiller that was a catalyst for the international opioid crisis, won the Baillie Gifford prize in 2021. The library also has Say nothing : a true story of murder and memory in Northern Ireland.

Angela Saini: Can we dismantle the patriarchy?
Where does the patriarchy come from? How does it infiltrate every corner of society, and why is it so difficult to dismantle? In her bold new book, Saini goes in search of the roots of what we call patriarchy, travelling to the world's earliest known settlements and analysing the latest research to uncover a complex system that reaches across the globe from prehistory, through empire and colonialism, and into the present. Ultimately, she asks what part we all – women included – play in keeping patriarchal structures alive.
