The ASP Advancement Office Special Guest Speaker Events for Parents Coming to ASP: Author and Educator Rosalind Wiseman Please take a moment to listen to a TEDx Talk by Rosalind Wiseman, and then join us for essential dialogue with this noted author, educator, and thought leader who will be working this month with ASP students and teachers, and also meeting with parents on two different occasions. We urge all parents to take advantage of this opportunity to work with a renowned expert on creating an environment to support our youth and help them thrive in today's complex world. Behind the Screen: Understanding the power of social media in young people's lives Monday, January 22 at 7:00 pm, in the PAC A presentation and discussion for adults and students regarding social media (suitable for all ages) Parent Workshop: Strengthening A Community of Dignity at ASP Wednesday, January 24 at 2:00 pm, in the Lower School Cafeteria A parent workshop focused on building communication between parents, educators, and students Among other works, Ms. Wiseman is the author of the New York Times best-selling book which was the basis of the film Mean Girls. Her work focuses on bullying, ethical leadership, the use of social media, and media literacy. Her goal at ASP will be to help build best practices around parent engagement and create a culture of dignity between students, faculty, and the outside community and support the parent-school partnership. Visiting Writer Evening Reception Pulitzer Prize winning author and critic Hilton Als Tuesday, March 13 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm Paris 75001 Thanks to generous support from literary agent and ASP alumnus Steven Barclay '77, ASP has showcased some of the literary world's best-known authors through our Visiting Writer Program.
Now in its 16th year, we are delighted to welcome Hilton Als, contributor to The New Yorker and winner of the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Criticism. In the words of ASP English teacher Maryama Antoine, "If you are not familiar with Hilton Als, I almost envy this moment of discovery for he is a powerhouse of culture, an authority in the world of theater, fashion and the arts."
Mr. Als will spend the day working with students at ASP and will speak to parents, faculty and staff at an evening presentation for adults in Paris. Invitation for Parents: Participate in ASPire to Serve Sandwich Drive Monthly, beginning Tuesday, January 16
The ASP Upper School has been working to bring food to the homeless population and the refugees living on the street of Paris. It is a way of giving back to our wonderful city by helping the residents who need it the most. The PFA would like to encourage parents from all school divisions to join this initiative. Starting this Tuesday, January 16 and from then on once a month, right after our PFA monthly meeting, we will meet in the Upper School's Coulson Family Commons to help make 200 sandwiches for distribution to the homeless or to refugees. Please sign up to volunteer. If you are unable to join us in-person, you may send your sandwich ingredient donations to school with your child. Click on the sign up link for all the details. Everyone is invited to join in and work together - students, parents, and faculty and staff. Please feel free to sign up for whatever works best for your schedule now and for the rest of the school year. New Family Orientation and Living Skills If you are new to ASP this school year and were not able to join us for our September programs, please plan to spend the day at ASP on Thursday, January 18 in the Ghosn Room 6.409 for an orientation program, followed by a convivial lunch and afternoon of Living Skills Seminars organized by our PFA.
We'll gather for a casual breakfast at 8:40 am, after which you'll be treated to an overview of ASP, including our online services, parent resources, student programs, and more. PFA volunteers have planned a series of Living Skills Seminars including: dining out and food in France, health care, safety and security, and transportation. This useful and fun program wraps up just in time for the end-of-school bell at 3:30 pm. You'll leave with both valuable information and new friends! Register here

Safety Message for Parents Driving to Campus At times, the ASP security team has observed students being dropped off outside the Paris gate, with the vehicles either staying in the road or obstructing the sidewalk and/or bus entrance. This practice endangers the students, as well as the occupants of those vehicles and other cars in the road.
Student Guitar Concert Wednesday, February 7 7:30 pm- 9:00 pm Please mark your family calendars! This year's first Student Guitar Concert will take place in the More than thirty students from all three divisions will present a lively program of works in a wide variety of styles by Maurice Ravel, Stevie Wonder, Isaac Albéniz, Arctic Monkeys, Adele, Green Day, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and others.

Click here for Online Registration Athletics Hosts for Visiting Swimmers Needed! The ASP annual Swim Meet is taking place on Saturday night, January 20. We will be hosting five teams for a meet with over 100 swimmers and we need lots of beds for hosting visiting swimmers. Swimmers will finish around 10:00 pm on Saturday night and leave at 9:00 am on Sunday. They will come to you clean and tired; a short and sweet housing obligation!
