"What a school thinks about its library is a measure of what it feels
about education" Harold Howe

On Monday, November 21, US students, faculty and staff discovered the brand new Sawaris Family Library.

Our design was motivated by functionality, curriculum needs and flexibility. With a college feel, the library has a warm, relaxing and work-conducing atmosphere.

We are very happy about the positive response we received from the community at large. Students and faculty have already started taking ownership and making themselves at home.

Here are some of the students' favorite features:

. The general feel of openess
. The small groups work areas
. The relaxing atmosphere you get upon entering
. The comfortable furniture (and the large bean bags)
. The white boards for studying
. The views from the large windows and the natural light

If you haven't done so yet, please come and visit us soon. We're located at the top of the atrium staircase.

BOOK HIGHLIGHT

Title: The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair
Author: Joel Dicker
Pages: 615 pages
Call number: F DIC

In the hopes of overcoming his writer's block Marcus Goldman, a young literary sensation, decides to visit his old mentor, Harry Quebert, in bucolic Somerset, New Hampshire.

Soon after Goldman's arrival Quebert is accused of the murder of 15 year-old Nora Kellerman whose body was just discovered 33 years after her sudden disappearance. Goldman intends to do everything he can to prove the innocence of his old friend and maybe find inspiration for his next book along the way...

The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair is a good and effective murder mystery with plenty of twists to satisfy any reader of the genre. Dicker's successful career is not unlike that of his protagonist and while he is often compared to Roth and Franzen The Guardian prefers to compare the Swiss author to the more modest Harlan Coban. You be the judge.

Ironically, some suggest that Dicker may have plagiarized the idea for his book from Philip Roth's The Human Stain. If the detective in you needs a challenge, read both novels, compare them and send me your findings to be published in a future newsletter.

NOTES:
. The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair, translated from the French by Sam Taylor
. Rights sold for translation in 32 languages
. Awards: Prix Goncourt des Lycéens, Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française

ROOM TO READ

ASP is happy to support Room to Read through various activities and fund raisers during the year.

Millions of children across 10 countries in Africa and Asia have benefitted from Room to Read’s programs. The plan is to
reach 15 million children with quality education by the end of 2020, but Room to Read needs your help to get there. Invest in their work or learn about other ways to get involved. Imagine a world in which all children receive the education they need to reach their full potential. Now, help make it a reality.

If you are interested in making a donation to support Room to Read's mission please contact Mario Chioini at the US library or click this link to Room to Read's donation secured web site.
