Our 2020 Canned Food Drive
Today marks the final celebration of our annual canned food drive to benefit the Saint-Cloud branch of the Restos du Coeur, a French organization that offers resources including food assistance to families all over the country!
In just a few short weeks, our students, parents, faculty, and staff, raised over 12,000 cans of food! This morning, the entire school gathered to hear from Yves, a representative from our local branch. He let us know that all together, we had donated over 2 tons of food, which is enough to make 800 meals.
Each day, students across the school counted their cans, and brought them into their common spaces to keep the enthusiasm for the donations strong! Middle School blew past their goal of 3,000 cans, and raised nearly 4,500 cans!
In addition to the fierce competition between Lower School homerooms, students learned about all the ways that they might help others in their community, and how this can make people feel afterward.
Not to be outdone, our Upper School students planned and executed a spirit week themed around food, complete with photo frame and a video filmed with friendly faces from around the school!
This year more than ever before, the ASP canned food drive makes a very real impact on our neighbors. These donations, according to Yves, allow the food bank to improve the quality and quantity of the meals distributed. This can mean welcoming an extra family, or adding more protein or vegetables into someone's basket. With COVID-19 throwing many of our neighbors into a difficult situation, it is an honor to have been able to fill the gap and help local families through this challenging time.
Thank you to our whole community, whether you lugged bag after bag of cans onto campus, donated money for our PFA volunteers to purchase cans on your behalf, or gave booklets of Tickets Resto to allow Restos du Coeur to purchase food at a more advantageous rate.
