ASP's 2012-2013 Welcome Program
At ASP we understand what it is to be new… everyone here was once new!
Every year we welcome more than 100 new families, and so we have developed an extensive Orientation and Welcome Program to help you find your feet, make new friends and feel right at home!
Developed by the Admissions Office, the Advancement Office, the Division Directors and the Parent Faculty Association, our program is designed to help you and your family integrate into the ASP and Paris communities as quickly and effortlessly as possible.
Parent Welcome Cocktail Parties
Date: Various Dates in September and October
Location: ASP families' homes in Paris and surrounding suburbs
As part of our longstanding Welcome Program, ASP is organizing grade-level cocktail parties for new and returning families. The cocktail events will be scheduled in September and October at the homes of ASP families and will allow parents to connect to other parents in their grade. Parents can attend one or more of the cocktails as their schedules permit. We will even give you a list of possible babysitters from our Upper School students. Invitations will be sent via email in September.
Community Connections Fair
Date: Thursday, September 6, 9am–11:30am
Location: ASP Gym
Where can I take French lessons? How can I get English television? Come to ASP and meet many English-speaking vendors and service providers from the Paris area who will gather to answer your questions. Representatives will be on hand from area clubs, religious and service institutions, language and cooking schools, IT support, banking, bookshops, and much more. Certain vendors will have items for sale on this day.
PFA Living Skills Seminar: “Food & Shopping”
Date: Tuesday, September 11, 9am–12:30pm
Location: Performing Arts Center (PAC)
A culinary expert will share helpful tips on French products. She will highlight various food and household items, as well as what to look for (and to avoid) in your local marché or grocery store. A valuable shopping guide will also be provided. Breakfast will be served before the seminar at 9:00 am in the Lower School Foyer.
PFA Living Skills Seminar: “French Healthcare”
Date: Thursday, September 13, 9am–12:30pm
Location: Performing Arts Center
Learn what to do in a medical emergency and how the French system works. A doctor working in Paris will explain the French approach to healthcare, how to find English-speaking doctors, and other essential information. Breakfast will be served before the seminar at 9:00 am in the Lower School Foyer.
PFA Welcome Meeting
Date: Monday, September 17, 9am–10:30am
Location: Lower School Cafeteria
Come meet and get to know fellow parents who volunteer to better the ASP community. PFA representatives will give brief presentations about school events and functions organized or supported by parent volunteers. Get involved and make a difference.
PFA Living Skills Seminar: “Getting Around in Paris”
Date: Tuesday, September 18, 8:30am–12:30pm
Location: Performing Arts Center
Seasoned ASP parents will offer tips on day to day travel in and about the city, including all forms of public transportation and driving in France. Learn about the many travel opportunities available outside of Paris and how to be safe within this marvelous city. Learn some French etiquette tips from members of the local community. Breakfast will be served before the seminar at 8:30 am in the Lower School Foyer.
PFA Lunch with New Friends
Date: Tuesday, September 18, 12:30pm-2:00 pm
Location: Upper School Cafeteria
Relax after our final Living Skills Seminar and become better acquainted with your new friends! You will be seated with neighbors from your town (or area), and will enjoy a lunch specially catered by the ASP Cafeteria team.
