ASP in Brief...          Francais   Español   Italiano   Swedish

Welcome to the American School of Paris.

We are a coeducational, independent school of more than 800 international students in Kindergarten through Grade 12.

For generations we have empowered our students to become the very best they can be through an experience unique in Paris: An American education centering on the individual, in an international setting underlined by a philosophy of respect and responsibility.

Above all we are a school with happy children, and happy children learn.

The child's experience

At ASP our students embark on a journey of self-discovery that uncovers and develops their unique talents. Each child:

  • Is challenged through our rigorous, university-preparatory academic program which embraces the best practices of an American model of education.
  • Works within a nurturing environment under the guidance of exceptional teachers, acquiring the skills and self-esteem necessary for personal success.
  • Explores talents in outstanding programs of music, theater, art, sport and technology.
  • Learns on a spacious, wireless campus with fine educational facilities including; bright, light classrooms, a world-class Performing Arts Center, two full-size gymnasiums and training center, two newly refurbished libraries, a media lab and modern cafeterias with a café terrace, resident French chef and organic choices.

The school structure

The School is organized into three divisions ensuring developmental and age-appropriate settings for our students: Lower School (4-10yrs), Middle School (11-13yrs) and Upper School (14-18yrs).

In addition our Extension Program provides English language programs for more than 2000 local French children each year

ASP offers the American High School Diploma, Advanced Placement and as an IB World School and has been offering the International Baccalaureate for 30 years. Our students attend the best universities in the world.

We combine the best of an American education with the advantages of Paris, our host country France and the proximity of the rest of Europe to enrich learning, and our diverse student body adds to this global perspective.

The ASP community

Half our student population is American, but our students come from nearly 60 countries with 8% from France.

More than 95% of our students are the children of diplomatic or corporate families:

  • 80% from companies with French multinationals Schlumberger, Renault, Air Liquide, Lafarge and Alcatel amongst our most significant corporate partners.
  • 15% from diplomatic families from 15 embassies and missions

A third of the school’s population changes each year and we have become experts in facilitating smooth transitions both into and out of our community. To assist our mobile families, ASP accepts students with no English until the age of 8 and has extensive support programs for English language learning and other support services from Kindergarten through Grade 12.

International education as a choice

ASP was the first International School established in Europe and remains the only American School in France.

Founded in 1946 to school the children of those who arrived in Paris in the pioneering aftermath of the Second World War, ASP has remained true to its founding mission and continues today to provide a high quality education delivered in English to the children of diplomatic and corporate families.

In addition, today International Education is fast becoming the first choice for many families who recognize inter-cultural understanding as the key to a successful future in a world in which national identities become at once more diluted and increasingly entrenched.

Global citizenship is at the heart of the ASP experience.

Accreditation, affliliations and governance

ASP is accredited by the Middle Schools Association and the Council of International Schools.

We are members of the National Association of Independent Schools, the European Council of International Schools, the Mediterranean Association of international schools and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.

The school is registered as an Association Loi 1901(not-for-profit) organization in France. It is governed by a board of trustees, made up of members of the school community and the Head of School.
